Tired, really tired of seeing British charts full of rappers. I really miss good old trademark British pop ruling

I feel like a lot of people are wilfully ignoring the fact that 7 out of the Top 10 this week are by British artists, and both the #1 single and #1 album, both of which got insane sales, are British pop.

Yep, I got you. But I was referring to pop songs exclusively. See Ellie Goulding , Claire Richards, Kylie...they really got any interest in charts lately

Totally agree with you! Do people actually rap:"music" as it isn't!!?

When I aw Lewis Capaldi for the first time I thought that's Peter Capaldi who played Doctor Who. Is Lewis his brother?

OMG! You follow the Eurovision too? After 12 years being away from it, i did watch it this year! Loved it..so many great songs and a few dreadful ones!! When i watched it live, i really wanted Duncan to win...love the song but then when i started to watch them on youtube..KEIINO became my favourite!! SPIRIT IN THE SKY is original, just a pop genius masterpiece!! I love and still listen to the band...Hopefully they will release an album soon??!! did you listen to their brand new single: PRAYING? fantastic!! different from Spirit but yet still amazing!! Love as well the Switzerland entry...his live performance was top notch...LUCA HANNI: SHE GOT ME...love it, love it!! Big fan of TAMTA: REPLAY...if you do like her song, check out: UNLOVED on youtube...she released it a few years back...great video, great song!! and of course MAHMOOD from Italy...and finally TAMARA from NOrth Macedonia...my God: her voice is magical and so powerful...She has a great video too...

I love EUROVISION! And I'm so happy Duncan won this year because I want to go to the live shows of the ESC, all 3 of them and there is a chance that the ESC will be held in Rotterdam next year, where I live!

DUNCAN LAURENCE had to win because he just nailed it but KEIINO... What a song indeed! Pure Pop Heaven! They really produced the ESC sound that I love so much! The only thing that I was not that fond of was the part in dialect. Had they left that out they surely would have won. I think KEIINO were the publics favourite, were they not? Their new song PRAYING is awesome too! I just can not understand why both songs were no huge hits all over Europe.... No news of an album yet. I hope they will release one soon. By the way, I rather liked their song SHALLOW too! They somehow remind me of ALPHABEAT, especially the voice of singer Alexandra. And yes... I love ALPHABEAT!

I did like LUCA HANI and TAMTA. Excellent pop songs. Even though TAMTA sounded very similar to last years ELENI FOUREIRA it still was a great song. I also really liked LAKE MALAWI and was very surprised Europe did not like them at all. KATE MILLER-HEIDKE was.... well.... different. Did not understand why people thought she could win.... MAHMOOD was not my favourite at all. Too much rap like for my taste. TAMARA was simply awesome but the song seemed to long.

I think I've been watching the ESC since 1980 or so. And I watch it from start to finish. I just love the tension of the (tele) voting! And I take all those hideous songs that come along too for granted....

Hi Ronald! Lake malawi were from which country again? Kate from Australia was AWFUL!! and her voice and singing drove me up the wall!! The worst were from ICELAND: too much heavy metal in that song!! Too much shouting and the came 10th!! RUSSIA was boring..at number 3, you are kidding!! I think they voted for him more for his looks than his vocal ability!! VICTOR CRONE with STORM was a great song and deserved better ranking, the same goes for GREECE...FRANCE was just weird, the same goes for ENGLAND: too boring i reckon!! in UK ages ago, Eurovision singers used to make a dent in the chart but not anymore!! Duncan and KEIINO hardly made the top 100 and only remained for a single week!! At least they both reached number 1 in their/ your country (Holland) and Norway...Have a great day...

Lake Malawi were from the Chech Republic. Quite a fun and happy song. I had expected it would fare much better....

Iceland were totally . Songs / bands like that should not be in ESC, nor should they represent a country. I do remember so well that HERA BJORK represented Iceland at the ESC. What a song! Or YOHANNA... both songs deserved to win but did not. JE NE SAIS PAS POURQUOI....

VICTOR CRONE was not bad at all. Way better than the song that Sweden hoped to win with.

France, England, Spain and Germany were just..... zzzzzzz

You didn't like SWEDEN this year?...I really liked the song, even more when the 3 ladies came to sing their part...He was very charismatic...

As soon as those ladies began to sing it got better but still no winning song at all!

My review of the Charts. Congratulations on Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber on having a second week at #1 with, "I don't care". I have listened to the track and also watched the video and I really enjoyed them both. "Grace" by Lewis Capladi has gone from #28 to #9 this week so I might listen to that when I finish this review. Only two months until the release of Now 103 and Now That's what I call Music! should be releasing the Now 103 Artwork soon. Giant by Calvin Harris and Rag'n'Bone man #24 is one of my favourite songs from 2019. I am suprised that no Elton John singles have re-entered the Charts because of the film, "Rocketman", that was released on 22nd May. Also the Charts needs to stop counting streams and just count sales. I would be really happy if the Official Charts Company said, "We will no longer be counting streams". However Spotify, Deezer, Apple Music should stay as I love streaming Music. That is why people don't buy CD's no more because everyone is using Spotify, Deezer or Apple Music. Soon CD's will become a thing of the past because nobody will buy them anymore and people will be streaming or downloading music off of the internet. HMV will have to close down as people will be using Amazon Prime or Netflix to watch films and TV Series's. Oh and does anybody listen to the Official Charts Take the Hit?

I totally agree. I'm an old school guy who still buy cds

My thoughts & observations on the UK charts as always…

- 'I Don't Care' by Ed Sheeran & Justin Bieber gets its second consecutive week at #1 on the singles chart! It accumulated a further 98,000 combined sales over the past seven days.

- ‘Me!’ by Taylor Swift ft Brendon Urie is back at #1 on the national airplay chart for a second non-consecutive week.

- ‘Old Town Road [Remix]’ by Lil Nas X ft Billy Ray Cyrus is #1 on the YouTube for a fifth cumulative week. It increases by 1.3% in weekly views to 3.84 million. ‘I Don’t Care’ is the top debut of week on that chart at #2 with 3.42 million views!

- Lewis Capaldi has three simultaneous Top 10 hits this week, which means he’s the first artist to accomplish this with a debut album since OCC introduced the ACR rule.

- TYLER, THE CREATOR – EARFQUAKE (#17)
I’m surprised how much of an impact Tyler The Creator had this week! I kind of expected him to get his highest charting album to date, but he also landed both his first & second Top 40 hits in the same week… just a shame this one wasn’t better. I get why Tyler is trying to head into upper range for his delivery & I respect that he’s admitting that the failing relationship is down to him which definitely takes bravery, but if he’s trying to go into a more smooth vocal tone, he’s really not pulling off that nor the falsetto all that well unfortunately. Even if he is convincing at times, the production is just too boring to comment that much on at all. He’s got another track coming up in a little bit, but this is only a light 5/10 for me.

- HALSEY – NIGHTMARE (#26)
So as some of you might know, I’ve never really been massively on board with Halsey as a lead artist & she works a lot better on collaborations. This, however, is a big exception! I thought Halsey might bring out her rock side after working with (& rumoured to be dating) YUNGBLUD, but, my goodness, I didn’t expect her to pull this off! I feel like the anger that’s she bottled up due to events that happened in her personal life is all been released in this one song & there’s no doubt that she can’t try any harder with the amount of power she’s delivering. This song is also one of the few instances in the charts where you see consistently successful transitions between sweet & abrasive vocals. Combine that with the crunchy guitars & distorted synths, you get some incredibly agitated percussion that captures the vibe of the song even more. Even if you weren’t on board with the first listen, this is still a grower regardless, but because I was already into this when I first heard it, it’s getting a solid 8/10 for now!

- TYLER, THE CREATOR – I THINK (#30)
Okay, second time’s the charm, right? It turns out, yeah, it is! I can’t say I love it exactly, but this is slightly better. I do like a lot of the honest commentary Tyler gives on both his mental health & how he feels in a romantic relationship. The hook can run into slightly repetitive territory more than it needs to, but I certainly like the beat here, he sounds a lot more solid & consistent, while the bridge takes an interesting turn to sound almost heavenly. I don’t think this is the track from ‘Igor’ that will get the most success, but I kind of hope it does! Solid 6/10 here.

- MARTIN GARRIX FT MACKLEMORE & PATRICK STUMP - SUMMER DAYS (#36)
I genuinely have no idea where this got enough support to make the Top 40 this week, especially since Martin Garrix has recently put out a few singles recently that haven’t had anywhere near as much impact as this one has. What’s more annoying is that the music he’s been releasing in the past few months is mostly far better than this! I mean, this song feels like it’s heading in like three directions; Patrick Stump’s falsetto sounds promising over the funky guitars, but Macklemore’s flow is relatively disappointing compared to his previous hits, but not as much of a let-down as that drop is! Blending the chopped vocals & the fuzzed out (almost trap-inspired) bass was such a bad call. I’m not even sure if either of those elements would’ve worked alone, let alone combining them. Why does it feel like the song is also missing a conclusion & ends rather abruptly too? I was intrigued by this at first, but no, I’m really not a fan of this. 4/10!

- DJ KHALED FT CHRIS BROWN, LIL WAYNE & BIG SEAN – JEALOUS (#37)
For as much as I didn’t get a lot of hype behind a new DJ Khaled album, Chris Brown was at least able to make ‘Do You Mind?’ interesting & these are artists you’d expect DJ Khaled to collaborate with, but I’m really not sure where I stand on this song. My biggest worry was going to be production, but letting Tay Keith command the trap production here has somewhat of a groove to it! Outside of that, we get a punchy verse from Big Sean & as usual we have Chris Brown delivering a decent falsetto. However, did we really need to have auto-tune slathered all over Lil Wayne again here & why does the hook come across as the most boring part of the song too? As for the content, eh, well it appears to be about people criticising a couple being in a relationship & the couple themselves dismissing them. I don’t know, it’s not precisely bad, but I don’t see anything here that’s going to make this big. As such, strong 5/10 for me.

- DOMINIC FIKE – 3 NIGHTS (#39)
This actually first caught my interest even before Radio 1 started picking up on it & I thought it might become a hit when I saw it soaring up the Australian & Irish charts. Anyway, here’s we are… & this is really good! The biggest ingredients for this to be an early summer smash are in the production, especially the leaden guitars in the intro & the general watered-down reggae feel. Dominic Fike also has a really smooth voice on the hook, even if I’m still not entirely sold on his Drake-style half-rapping in the second verse, but at least it sounds like he’s having more fun. The lyrics do seem to lack detail by a fair bit which makes the content difficult to follow, but if you look past that, this definitely has some potential! Very strong 7/10 for me.

- On the albums chart, Lewis Capaldi’s debut album titled ‘Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent’ debuts at #1 with the biggest opening week combined sales of the year so far! It debuts with a combined sales figure of 89,506 (46% physical sales, 34% streaming, 20% digital sales).

- The rest of the Top 5 is: ‘I Am Easy To Find’ by The National (debuts at #2), Rammstein’s self-titled album (debuts at #3), ‘Igor’ by Tyler The Creator (debuts at #4) & ‘When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?’ by Billie Eilish (2-5).

- Looking ahead to next week, these songs could enter the Top 40 for the first time: ‘Cross Me’ by Ed Sheeran ft Chance The Rapper & PnB Rock, ‘One Touch’ by Jess Glynne & Jax Jones, ‘Isis’ by Joyner Lucas ft Logic, ‘The London’ by Young Thug ft J Cole & 21 Savage, ‘OT Bop’ by NSG, ‘Stay [Don’t Go Away]’ by David Guetta ft Raye, ‘Easier’ by 5 Seconds Of Summer & maybe even more.

- Finally, while none of them made the Top 40, I’m very happy to see: ‘Spirit In The Sky’, ‘Arcade’ & ‘Soldi’ all appear in the Top 100. These are three amazing Eurovision entries & all of them deserved way better in my opinion!

- Thanks for reading everyone! I hope you all have a good Bank Holiday weekend. :)

So from what I've heard, I really like Tyler, The Creator! He's an awesome rapper. "Flower Boy" didn't get a Grammy nod for Best Rap Album for nothing!

However from what I've heard on "Igor"... I'm not saying it's bad, it might even be OK, but his previous album was more deserving of this kind of success! I would agree with your scores on these, maybe even give "Earfquake" a 4.5/10!

From DJ Khaled album, it's been mixed. I would give "Jealous" a bit better 7/10 (I agree Lil Wayne is the worst on it) and "Higher" maybe even an 8/10! (Really emotional considering Nipsey dying!)

Then there's "Wish Wish" with a 3/10 (surprisingly bad from Cardi) and "Celebrate" with a 4.5/10. Oh yeah and "Top Off", which is total c*ap. It might be the worst Beyonce-song I've heard. Maybe even a 1.5/10!

Really need to hear both of these in full though!

Hey Piran! Of course it's great to see 'I Don't Care' get a 2nd week at #1, though I do actually feel like 'Old Town Road' could have a chance of returning to #1 over the next few weeks. It's currently around 27k streams ahead on Spotify, and has been consistently gaining on iTunes to the point where it's now at around 80% of the sales of 'I Don't Care'. Plus, on the most recent YouTube chart 'Old Town Road' got around 55% (~2.5m) more views than 'I Don't Care'. I think it'll be very close next week and the week after, but I can definitely see 'I Don't Care' returning to #1 once 'No. 6 Collaborations Project' is released, as long as it hasn't been declining it streams in the 3 weeks prior since that will be its 10th week on the chart.
Other than that, I do really like seeing Lewis Capaldi get 3 simultaneous Top 10 hits, especially with 'Grace' making that huge climb into the Top 10 (I think I'd put it as my favourite track from the album). If he hadn't been limited to 3 entries he would've had all 12 tracks in the Top 40, which is especially bad for 'Bruises'. The track spent ages lingering just outside the Top 40, and the 1st week it would've made it into the Top 40 was also the week 'Hold Me While You Wait' was released, disqualifying it since Lewis had 3 tracks higher. This week it would've been #13! It's also great to see 'All Day And Night' climb into the Top 10, and pretty surprising that Lewis Capaldi, Tyler, The Creator and DJ Khaled all manage to get 3 entries in the Top 50.
As for the debuts, my thoughts on 'EARFQUAKE' are pretty similar to yours, as I'd give it a solid 5/10. I was actually kind of disappointed with 'Nightmare' after how much I loved 'Without Me', though I think that's more due to the fact that I'm not really a fan of the style rather than the song itself actually being bad. I'd give it a light 6/10. 'I THINK' would also get a light 6/10 from me, while I definitely like 'Summer Days' much more than you as I'd give it a light 7/10. 'Jealous' would be a solid 6/10 for me, while '3 Nights' would only be a light 5/10, my least favourite entry of the week. Even though it didn't make the Top 40, my favourite entry of the week is 'Celebrate' at #48 with a strong 8/10 for now, and I also liked 'Wish Wish' quite a bit, as I'd give it a strong 7/10 - light 8/10.
Next week, as I've already said, I'm pretty sure it'll be a close race between 'I Don't Care' and 'Old Town Road', while 'Cross Me' will almost definitely be the highest new entry, probably reaching the Top 10. 'The London' and 'OT Bop' both look like potential Top 20 entries as well, while 'One Touch' should manage to make the Top 40 and 'Isis' might as well. Overall, it looks like it'll be a pretty eventful week.

Hey Gameskiller! :)
Yeah, 'Old Town Road [Remix]' is continuing to increase in performance again. Not only in those metrics that you mentioned, but across the entire board actually it seems. I wonder what the reason behind its sudden resurgence is?
What I found interesting about 'Old Town Road' is that OCC only credit Lil Nas X & not Billy Ray Cyrus. That said, the remix take up a majority of its YouTube & Spotify numbers, while it's almost all the remix on Apple Music & iTunes. It's clear that the remix version is what the British public are consuming the most, so why isn't that the one that is being shown on the charts? It reminds me of when OCC changed the features for 'Despacito', but not for 'Mi Gente'. Like, with 'Perfect' or 'Keisha & Becky' for example, I get why (the originals were already big hits).
With 'I Don't Care', following on from our discussion on the last article, at least we now know that it is indeed the lead single to Ed's upcoming fourth album! Since 'No.6 Collaborations Project' is due for release on 12th July, that'll be before the song can be placed on ACR, so unless there's another big collaboration that debuts at the top to block it, I could definitely see you predicting that correctly.
Speaking of the album itself, we don't know who any of the other collaborators are beyond the ones we've heard already, although I did notice that PJ Harvey & Jade Bird were two of the songwriters listed which seems promising.

So what you're saying is, if I wanted to get more into Tyler The Creator, I should probably check out his previous album? 'Igor' is fine from what I've heard from it, but with the amount of critical acclaim I heard he was getting, I knew he had to be putting out something better than this.
Of those other DJ Khaled songs you mentioned, I've only heard 'Top Off' & I would actually agree with your rating on that. Beyoncé might actually be the best part of that song, but given that she's the artist behind 'Lemonade' just two years beforehand, she was incredibly disappointing on that.

I'll definitely suggest it! My favourite tracks are "Who Dat Boy", "Garden Shed" and "See You Again".

There are some misses as well, especially "Droppin' Seeds". The track is only 1-minute long, and wastes the awesome chance for a Lil Wayne-feature.

It's a good album though, and one of my fave Alternative-Rap albums!

I'm pretty sure the resurgence of 'Old Town Road' comes from its music video finally getting released. It's getting some pretty insane views on YouTube at least, so I think that probably translated to some increased sales and streams as well. I think Billy Ray Cyrus isn't credited just because the track reached the chart before the remix was released, and from there the only way to get it changed is for the label to specifically request the other artist be featured, like with 'Despacito (Remix)'.
Yeah, I guess 'No. 6 Collaborations Project' changed direction from a grime-influenced collaborations album to just a general collaborations album since he talked about it last year. As for 'I Don't Care', the week that the album would make an impact on the chart would be the 1st week it could be put on ACR since it's its 10th week I believe, and because of the way the rule works if it declines in streams the 3 weeks prior it would be calculated on ACR even if it gained that week. Even if it gained by 50%, it would still be calculated on ACR for that week, and be taken off for the next week.
That said, I am still very hyped for 'No. 6 Collaborations Project', especially since it's now been over 2 years since we've heard new solo music from Ed (and I've been to see him live in Newcastle twice during that time)! He's been featured on a good amount of songs since then like 'End Game', 'Boa Me', 'River', 'Lifting You', 'Hello Hi 2' and 'Amo Soltanto Te', but we hadn't actually had any brand new solo music since '÷' until 'I Don't Care' came along. Based on the 2 songs we've got so far I think I'll probably like the album more than '÷' and '+', but it's highly unlikely I'll like it more than 'x' given that it's still my 2nd favourite album of all time.

Did you hear the acoustic version of 'I Don't Care' by the way? :)
Since 'Old Town Road' just missed out on going back to the top today even with the remix video, that's making me think that Ed & JB could pull off a fourth week at #1 after all.
